Cricket, the game of glorious uncertainties is evident in and revealing of our culture today - here in the United States as it was in our respective homelands. It is a Gentleman's game, and once bitten by the bug, wherever we go we itch to play this wonderful game. Such was the determination of one, Jacob Benjamin and his group, who were bitten by the bug and had the itch.
Their passion and enthusiasm for the game never died, even after arriving in the heartland of American society, where the word Cricket was synonymous with that of an insect or a dart game in a local Billiards Club. Determined to introduce this great game of ours to this great land that we now call home, the Columbus Cricket Club (CCC) was born in 1996.

Since then CCC has progressed rapidly, prompting our glorious past in central Ohio, and building a membership base that reflects a mosaic of cultures. Players from India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, England, Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh have been a part of our club at some point of its existence.

The first few years were mostly preparative. A core group was formed and started playing, albeit with a tennis ball. In 1997, the strength increased and the desire to play regular cricket was evident in every club member.

In 1998, due to some great work done by the core group and assistance from the Ohio State University, the CCC graduated from a purely recreational club to a more serious Cricket Club.

In the same year CCC hosted its first Cricket festival at its adopted home base, the OSU cricket ground. Several Midwest Cricket teams participated in the festival with the highlight being the visiting touring team from India. CCC benefited from this venture by accumulating a much-needed inventory of cricket equipment from the overseas visitors.

With a rapidly growing membership of competent and enthusiastic cricketers, CCC promoted itself by participating in several friendly games with teams from the Midwest area. Though CCC was unable to gain entry into the much-acclaimed Midwest Tournament in 1998 due to a delay in registration, it demonstrated the skill of its players by defeating the champions in a friendly game later that year.

In 1999, a determined CCC revealed itself to the world. CCC proved that, the desire to always give its best, the power of teamwork and determination are the integral ingredients for a successful formula. The formula worked and worked well. Till date our accomplishments include:

  1. Winners of the 2005 Cincinnati Open Challenge.
  2. Winners of the 2004 Six-a-Side Tournament.
  3. Winners of the 2003 Midwest Cricket Tournament.
  4. Winners of the 2003 Ohio Open Six-a-side Tournament.
  5. Winners of the 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2004 Tennisball Tournaments.
  6. Runner's Up at the 1999 Midwest Tournament.
  7. Hosting the first ever Six-A-Side tournament in the Midwest Region.
  8. Hosting the 2000 Challenger's Trophy tournament.
  9. Touring the Sarasota Intl. Cricket Club in Florida.
  10. Hosting the Sarasota Intl. Cricket Club in Columbus.
  11. Achieving the status of reserving our own playing facilities.
  12. Maintaining a healthy, competitive and diverse membership.

Today, CCC is a healthy and rapidly growing organization. We have earned the respects of our peers (fellow cricket teams in the Midwest), by demonstrating the discipline and conduct required for being winners in the Midwest Cricket League. We are also striving hard to promote the game of Cricket in Central Ohio and Columbus in particular and are open to any individual with the interest to play the sport.

The success of the Six-A-Side tournament has given us the added incentive to continue promoting such events, and it will be incorporated into our annual event calendar.
